I have been an experienced manager in healthcare and education settings for a number of years and partly due to the business of the roles it isn’t always possible to reflect on your leadership/management practice and in my case what time i have had has been utilised to complete a variety of other qualifications. The importance of reflective practice cannot be overstated and having the opportunity to look back on what I have done, to draw from my experience and also consider deliberately and plan for the future is something that time doesn’t always allow.
The Level 8 diploma in strategic direction and leadership provided me this positive opportunity to reflect on what I actually do in terms of my management practice. I began a number of years ago taking some careers advice from Sussex business school and then took up the suggestion to complete the L8 course. When required I was given a nudge in the right direction but otherwise was allowed freedom to complete the work at my own speed. Feedback was concise but helpful and my tutor was complementary and encouraging.
The development of good management is essential especially in the midst of such unpredictable and challenging times and I would wholeheartedly recommend Sussex business school as a place to reflect on and develop these skills.
