Is Management Training Part of Your Strategic Plan?

Is management training part of your strategic plan?

Aligning management training and learning with strategic vision.

Whether you’re a small business or large corporation, growth and future development are almost certainly key factors in your future success. One of the most important roles in any business is that of the manager, the person who helps deliver on your overall strategic vision.

Aligning management training and development for these key individuals is therefore vital if you are to achieve your short and long term goals. The good news is that high quality learning and CPD is readily available online nowadays with a host of excellent courses which can be tailored in line with your strategic development plans.

The Importance of effective training for managers

We are long past the days where we considered that managers were born not made. The concept of continuing professional development has become an integral part of individual careers and nowhere is this seen more vividly than in management. New skills can be learned and these can have a huge impact on how businesses of all types run.

For all your employees, the relationship between them and their line manager is vital in creating an atmosphere of cooperation and productivity. Good managers have a huge impact. So od bad ones. If your employee feels ignored or put upon they are likely to feel less engaged. If they are supported and encouraged, their productivity and loyalty increases dramatically.

Training for managers used to be limited to learning on the job – people were promoted because they had some key skills or personal qualities that were appropriate or were simply ‘next in line’. Nothing much was done beyond this to further develop abilities. Experience can count for a lot, of course, especially if you have the right aptitude already. But it’s no real substitute for learning and takes a whole lot longer to bear fruit.

Successful management isn’t some ethereal quality that is imbued on individuals from birth. There are some fairly basic concepts like goal setting, performance monitoring and communication that can actually be taught quite easily.

Management training at all levels of management is important. Many companies will invest in sending their top staff on courses but will generally ignore those in middle management who also need to be developed. Instead, they depend on a trickle down of skills from above which can take time if they’re successful at all.

Including training throughout your organisation ensures that all your managers have access to the tools they need.

This can bring underperforming managers up to the right standard and avoid unevenness throughout the business. It means you don’t have a situation where one set of employees get a good manager while others only get a barely competent one.

If you have a manager who is well trained, they are likely to be more respected and will better engage with employees. This should, in turn, greatly boost productivity across the board.

Most of the time, employees will only have contact with their line manager so the importance of that relationship and how it can be improved with better training cannot be ignored.

 Online Management and Leadership Courses

Better training does make a big difference. The good news is that high quality leadership management courses are now available online and can be tailored to the needs of your business and the individuals involved. That means you no longer have to hope your managers are doing the job you want them to do.

There a range of online courses that help deliver the knowledge, understanding and key management skills your business will truly benefit from right now. You can also train exceptional managers to coach and mentor others in your organisation and create a true professional development culture that drives your business forward in line with its current and future strategic goals.

You are a rare breed 🙌🥳👏 For the rest of us, it is mostly a journey downwards into a spiral of failure, guilt, and frustration which circles back to thinking less of ourselves and hardly ever making us feel good or achieve anything meaningful. Most of us fail for three main reasons: Lack of clarity, Unreasonable expectations, and Lack of inspiration or passion.
